Attentive handles number setup with you during onboarding. Its help center lists short codes, toll-free numbers, and 10DLC for the US. Your site needs a live company URL, a privacy policy and terms that Attentive links from every sign-up unit, and opt-in wording Attentive's team reviews before you go live.
Attentive is a managed SMS and email platform used by many ecommerce brands, often on Shopify. Unlike self-serve tools, most of the carrier setup runs through your Customer Success Manager (CSM) or Attentive's White Glove team. That means fewer forms for you, but the same website checks behind the scenes.
10DLC Site is not affiliated with or endorsed by Attentive. Provider names are used only to describe where information goes. This page describes the flow as documented at the time of writing (Updated September 2026). Screens change, so follow what you see in your account.
Attentive's help center lists all three for the US. Its MMS guide names short codes, toll-free numbers, and 10DLC as US number types. Attentive does not publish which type a new account gets by default, or the exact fields it submits for you.
| Number type | What Attentive's help center says |
|---|---|
| Dedicated short code | You can request one. Non-vanity codes are assigned at random. Vanity codes let you pick the digits if available. |
| Toll-free | Supported in the US and Canada. Attentive's contact card feature works with toll-free only. |
| 10DLC | Listed as a US number type. Its older number guide calls it the compliant long code option, with daily caps. |
| Plain long code | Not an option for US marketing. The short code FAQ says you cannot send on a long code instead. |
Whichever number you get, carriers review the same things: that your business is real, that your site matches it, and that people clearly agreed to your texts. For toll-free numbers that review is toll-free verification. For short codes it is a carrier application. For 10DLC it is a brand and campaign in The Campaign Registry.
Attentive keeps them in company settings and in the legal text of your sign-up units.
| URL | Where it goes in Attentive |
|---|---|
| Company website | Settings, Company settings, General tab: Company URL |
| Privacy policy | Same page: Privacy Policy field (per region if you send to more than one country) |
| Terms and conditions | Same page: Terms & Conditions field (per region if needed) |
| Opt-in page | Your sign-up units and landing pages. Attentive reviews the final setup before launch. |
Attentive's guide says some of these fields are filled in during onboarding. Check each one yourself, and make sure the URLs match the ones in your sign-up unit disclosure.
Attentive's legal disclosure guide sets out what every SMS opt-in must show:
Attentive's sign-up units are built from templates it describes as designed with legal and carrier compliance in mind. Custom forms and landing pages you build yourself need the same wording. See opt-in form.
Attentive does not publish a list of rejection codes. The usual carrier reasons still apply, and Attentive's own rules point to these:
| Likely cause | Where it comes from | Fix page |
|---|---|---|
| Disclosure missing, buried, or pre-checked box | Attentive legal disclosure guide | Opt-in not verifiable |
| Terms or privacy link missing from the sign-up unit | Attentive legal disclosure guide | Missing SMS terms |
| Privacy policy lacks SMS data wording | Carrier review standard | Privacy policy missing SMS |
| Store not public yet (Shopify private mode) | Shopify default for new stores | Website not accessible |
| Site brand differs from the legal company | Carrier review standard | Website does not match brand |
If your number is held up, ask your CSM for the exact reason. Then fix the site and let them resubmit.
Attentive's short code FAQ, last updated in 2023, gives these figures:
| Short code type | Time listed | Monthly fee listed |
|---|---|---|
| Non-vanity | 4 to 6 weeks | $750 |
| Vanity | 6 to 8 weeks | $1,250 |
The FAQ also says payment for a short code is due when you apply, not when the code arrives. Attentive's pricing is contract-based, so confirm current fees with your account team. Attentive does not publish review times for toll-free or 10DLC in the articles we checked.
Attentive connects to Shopify through its public app. Watch these points:

10DLC Site builds these pages and gives you the URLs. Your Attentive team handles the carrier side with you, and carriers make the final decision. For other providers, see the any-provider guide.

A new .com with hosting, SSL, a privacy policy that covers SMS, SMS terms and a compliant opt-in form, built to the requirements on this page. You submit your own 10DLC registration, and no one can guarantee approval, but a reviewer will have nothing on your site to flag.

All three appear in Attentive's help center for the US. Its MMS guide lists short codes, toll-free numbers, and 10DLC for US sending. Attentive does not publish which type each new account gets by default, so ask your CSM which number you are on.
Attentive runs the number setup with you. Its help center says it handles short code requests and migrations, and that company details are partly filled in during onboarding. It does not publish a self-serve registration form, so your CSM or White Glove team is the contact.
In Settings, Company settings. Attentive's guide lists Company URL, Privacy Policy, and Terms & Conditions fields there, or per region if you send to more than one country. The same URLs go in the legal disclosure on your sign-up units.
Yes. Attentive's legal disclosure guide says to send your final opt-in setup to your CSM or White Glove team for review before it goes live. The disclosure must be clear and conspicuous, and any SMS checkbox must start unchecked.
Attentive's short code FAQ, last updated in 2023, lists 4 to 6 weeks for a non-vanity code and 6 to 8 weeks for a vanity code. It also lists monthly fees for each type. Confirm current pricing and timing with Attentive.
No. Attentive's short code FAQ answers that question with a plain no. Its number type guide also says plain long codes are not compliant for the US market. 10DLC, the registered form of a long code, is a separate type.
